Grape juice on the vine
I have a group of people I run with, and today they showered me with so much kindness. I’m still blown out of my mind one hour after we parted ways and went home.
Long story short, these people and I went to dinner together, where I shared a bit of my story that I have been laid off since several months ago to one of them. She then went out of her way to reach out to a couple other people who seemed like they had the closest link to my line of work, and both of them just offered so much help. Another person did the same for me with a different kind of work opportunity. No hesitation.
I’m shocked! As an awkward person trying their best to socialize and make genuine connections with people I don’t know much about, I am very grateful to receive so much kindness from those people today. I also don’t know anything much about networking much to my chagrin. These people just got up and said “I will help you.”
They don’t know much about me. We just run together.
In my naive brain, I ask a lot of questions to myself:
Is this how networking is like? What do they see in me? Do they not need to see something in me? What’s in it for them? Is it good will?
I’m still quite dazed with the impact of gratitude and shock. At the end of the day, I’m just so grateful to have met these people and talked to them and shared something about me and receive kindness forward.
Absolutely grateful. Absolutely amazed.
What a wonderful bunch of folks right here.
P.S. After I came back home, I got a couple bottles of grape juice from my family. I had told them that I crave grape juice a little while ago, and they remembered. So basically I have been showered twice with kindness back to back, hence the reference to the blog post title. All the love on the vine!
